You are cordially invited to a night of independent cinema, food, drinks, prizes, and good company Tuesday February 28th at The Roger Smith Hotel.
More info about Cinemonde here.

Cinémonde #23 takes us to the sun-kissed cobblestones of the Trastevere quarter of Rome for a sneak preview of the warm and witty follow-up to the 2010 sleeper hit, MID-AUGUST LUNCH (screened at Cinémonde #9). This evening will be pure Italian, from menu to wine selection to this sparkling new film from writer/director/actor Gianni Di Gregorio. With THE SALT OF LIFE, Di Gregorio has created another bittersweet comedy, playing a middle-aged retiree trying as best he can to navigate his life between a spendthrift mother, a distant wife, a daughter with her live-in slacker boyfriend, a sexy neighbor and her big dog. All our hero is looking for is a little feminine company. But despite his valiant efforts, full of gentlemanly, gracious approaches to a variety of attractive ladies, Gianni’s love life takes some unexpected and hilarious twists and turns.
Reservations are open until noon on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
How Roger Smith fell out of bed!

This is the story of how Roger Smith is become more then just a hotel in New York. There are many hotels in New York and we are not the biggest, the newest or the fanciest. Our rooms are large in comparison to other hotels yet they have an old-world charm.
So how does a 130 room hotel in the middle of midtown Manhattan distinguish itself from it’s competitors?

#TweetDrive inspires NYC’s Social Community to give back! ~ Harrison Kratz guest blog post
Posted on 20. Dec, 2011 by JohnKnowles in Community, Events, Hotel
On Tuesday Decemeber 13, social media professionals and community builders from the New York City area came together to give back and celebrate the holidays at the Lily’s in the Roger Smith Hotel for the New York City Tweet Drive.

The New York City Tweet Drive was part of Tweet Drive, a global social good campaign that brings together social media communities to collect toys for under-privileged children during the holiday season.

New York’s social media community came out in full force and showed what the holidays are all about – friends, family, drinks, giving back, and more than a few ridiculous Facebook photos.

Thanks to event partners such as HP, Community Managers Meetup, SCVNGR and popchips, New York rocked around the Christmas tree to the tune of over 100 toys collected for Toys for Tots’ Brooklyn chapter! In celebration, there may or may not have been some “Tebowing.”
As the organizer of Tweet Drive, I would just like to say thank you for making this an unforgettable night. While there are many things to do in the city during the holidays, you all chose to spend it with us to give back to a great cause.
Santa Con may have been last Saturday, but for one night at the Roger Smith Hotel, we all got to be our own version of Santa Claus.
This is a guest blog post from Harrison Kratz.
Bio: Harrison Kratz navigates New York City as the Community Manager at MBA@UNC, the new MBA online program from the University of North Carolina. He also sticks to his entrepreneurial roots as the founder of the global social good campaign, Tweet Drive.

The RS4PS is a natural step in the Roger Smith Hotel’s corporate social responsibility undertakings.
Said Mr. Knowles: “I personally and the hotel are firm believers in art as a foundation for young people’s growth. Realizing that art programs are the first to be cut in difficult times, RS4PS is a way to be involved in a cause close to our hearts. Needless to say the RS4PS initiative also aims to support other essential parts of public education such as the need for assistant teachers, sports, music and much more.”
Within the framework of the RS4PS program, the Roger Smith Hotel will donate event space and event planning support for PTA’s in Fundraising and Networking events. All food and beverage will be provided by the Roger Smith Hotel without mark up.
A typical RS4PS event is a 3 hour food and beverage tasting held in one of the hotels 5 event spaces.
First event is schedule for May 12th 6-9pm. For anybody who would like to attend this event please go to http://www.rs4ps.eventbrite.com

Looking out the window, from the seventeenth floor it’s hard for me to grip what I’m seeing. Skyscrapers in different heights and shapes. Far down are hundreds of different people, coming from different places, all with different destinations. I’ve seen this place before many times, in media and movies. I’ve heard people singing about it, and I’ve heard people dreaming about it, but I never thought I would be seeing it with my own eyes. I’m in New York city.
I can’t help to think how I ended up here. The previous place that I could call home had a very different window view. There I could see tall mountains covered in snow, no matter the season.
In cold places I have glided over the snow, in hotter regions I have surfed waves, and in NYC I cruise the streets on my board. The world is like a one big playground, and for those that want it, it’s out there. All a person needs is a little curiosity and an open mind, to be able to spot all the fun that is around us. People will always be different and sometimes narrow minded, sometimes scared to stick out of the crowd and be different. I like environments where I know I can be myself, and where people don’t have to be afraid to be different. I mutually carry an open mind no matter where I am.
In no other element I feel more as myself, as I do when I’m dancing. I like to freestyle, and I like to find new ways of moving. The more crooked and bent the movement, the more it expresses me. No matter how I move, it’s got to me funky! Roger Smith represents that funk. All I want to do all day everyday is to put on my funky Roger Smith persona and get caught in the rhythm to where it reaches a point where everything else seems to disappear.

The things in life that makes me happy are nature, physical activity and sharing the good moments in life with friends. Sometimes a smile or a joke with a complete stranger can have an even more positive effect, in a sense that the bonding process happens ultra fast, and generates a powerful feeling of being alive.
I think that this is one of the main reasons to why I ended up in New York. I was lucky enough to find a place where my mentality fits in, and where I continuously meet potential friends from near and far.
To me New York is like a connecting dot on the planet where people with different languages, cultures and styles all share the city. It’s funny but after some time spent in NYC, you start to notice that many of the people you meet are not originally from here, and many others (just like myself), are just passing by.

Being Roger Smith is not hard, not straining and not fake. Everyday I meet Roger Smith. There is a little bit of Roger Smith in all of us, but since this all about me I’m going to say it.
My name is Tomas Terstad, and I am Roger Smith (even when I spin on my head).

We decided on Bacon. Even if you don’t eat Bacon, you have to admit the aroma alone is enticing.
