RS Sales Manager Marlenny Paredes on the Pop space activities this month: Kal Rieman and Kashmir Moon
Posted on 11. May, 2012 by danikadruttman in RS Pop, RSPop[+]
The fabulous Marlenny in Sales at The Roger Smith Hotel gives us some thoughts on what is going on in the Pop Up stores here this month.
By Marlenny Paredes
Kal Rieman is a ready-to-wear high fashion business collection for women. Designer Cally Rieman began her collection, KAL RIEMAN, in 2009; prior to launching KAL RIEMAN, Cally worked in the fashion industry in Paris for renound designers Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and for Rubin Chapelle , as well as H Hilfiger men’s wear in New York. I spoke with Rosan Van Boven, a fashionable sales rep with an interest in designing. She showed me some of the most popular pieces, I loved the men’s tuxedo style cut jackets, also a favorite among the fashionistas, and available from the spring/summer collection. Designer Cally utilizes fabrics imported from Italy, silks from NY and chiffon, and although average price point for a silk blouse is at around $450, it is good to know that the entire collection is made in USA. Think Angelina Jolie when you are trying to get a feel of Kal Riemans’ collection.
Kashmir Moon is a gallery of handmade decorative and wearable art. Kashmir Moon is a family business run by Shujaat H. Kemma, who grew up in a family of well known artists in Kashmir, India. Kashmir Moon was established in 2002 and prides themselves on producing original, hand embroidered garments that make up their exquisite and unique collection. Shujaat is a charismatic individual and passionate about his craft. Stop by and admire the beauty of his one of a kind pieces using designs of exotic animals, and classic paisley.
Follow Friday Watch-list #FF @andysmith @basilpuglisi and @pamslim “Movers and Shakers”
Posted on 10. Feb, 2012 by JohnKnowles in Community, Hotel
Good morning on this beautiful Friday. There’s a lot going on in New York City right now. With the Cookbook Conference underway at the Roger Smith Hotel there is there is no shortage of excitement in midtown. On my Follow Friday watch-list I have a couple of movers and shakers who become guiding lights for me in a time of social action.
First on my list is Andy Smith who has put his heart into creating the RS Cookbook Conference. We are hosting a Conference surrounding the beauty of the cookbook and all it’s parts. Andy is a celebrated food author who has a new book that dives into the indulgence and passion for junk food in our culture.
The second person on my follow Friday watch-list is Basil Puglisi. A natural connector, Basil is the motivator and champion of the upcoming Social Media Action Camp that is happening on Thursday February 16th as part of Social Media Week, again at the Roger Smith Hotel… Basil runs DBMEI (Digital Brand Marketing Education) and is an elite member of the “Who’s who” of the marketing and social media sphere.
The third person on my Follow Friday watch-list is Pamela Slim. The first participant in the Pop+ [+]Network, Pam came into my space and introduced me to a series inspirational people, who will change my path in life forever. She’s not just a blind connector… Pam is interested in people and their passions. The quality of personalities that surfaced in her presence has gripped my attention and has elevated the quality of my network. The word “Hotshot” has been a buzzword in my vocabulary ever since.
In a new year, filled with exciting potential, I am encouraged by the opportunities that are in front of me. It’s a time to be socially responsible and encourage those who are heading in a similar direction. It’s a great time to be inspired. I am building new relationships that I imagine will be long lasting.
If you find yourself interested in knowing more about what is going on here at the Roger Smith don’t hesitate to reach out. Share with us what you are up to and ask something of us. Maybe we can help.
Have a great Friday afternoon and enjoy the weekend.
Please comment, share and engage…

Meditation / Mediations A reflection on artistic collaborations with Daniel Rothbart by John Knowles
Posted on 06. Jan, 2012 by JohnKnowles in Arts, Community, Hotel
Video as an art-form was my creative indulgence in 2011. I have been testing visual concept through patterns and loops and have developed a style and method for my creative expression. It has inspired new collaborative projects that test my ability to mix and balance different elements of light, color, intent and other contributing inputs.
On November 20th 2011, I set up my projections with artist Daniel Rothbart to test out new forms of creative alchemy. The ingredients of the experiment consisted of my intent to drive future success and innovation combined with Daniels perspective as a conductor within the light.
Together we explored the dimension of the empty space in the bowls and played with the shadows as they appeared on the wall behind him. His calm and observant nature provided the an ideal collaborative chemistry.
So what can you as the objective observer take away from this experience? I believe that creative expressions of intent opens the door to new realizations and physical manifestations. By exploring the depths of your creative potential you can imagine and experience any reality you choose. My objective is to inspire and stimulate others to create and participate.
Stay tuned for collaborative art projects in 2012. We will soon be launching an Artist meetup at the Roger Smith where creative personalities be able to meet and experiment.
Reach out and engage to be part of the growing network.
Welcome to @pancity! Where all your dreams come true!

Roger Smith News World Report – Are Sweden
Posted on 12. Oct, 2011 by JohnKnowles in Community
Welcome to the Roger Smith News World Report travel blog. Are, Sweden!
My travels took me this past winter to the mountain ski town of Are Sweden. Being my third time back it was good to take on the mountain with @RShotel intern Oscar Wallen. The snow was fast and the conditions were great.
Roger Smith New reporting from the mountain with Oscar Wallen and the Panman himself.

I’ve got much love for the people of Are! I met great people traveling around with Nico Belloto and his crew & look forward to maintaining relationships with them in the future.
Kann dig som Hemma nar du ar I New York.
It’s a flip off. Beware of the next generation of creative talents! They are young, full of energy and they can operate with agility in new technological age. Axel Bengtson, Son of Ulrika Bengtson got his hands on a flip camera and it was game on.
I hope to make it back to Are this winter as I think it is one of the premier skiing destinations in the world. Great food, great people and truly a unique experience. If you have the chance to get there, you should go.

In the meantime I’m looking forward to tackling the mountains in VT this year. I hear that the northeast is going to get a hell of a winter. I will probably hit up Magic Mt, and support the local So. Londonderry trails! Who’s up for some ski weekends?
See you on the slopes.
Panman
I like to get feedback as always. Let me know what you think of the travel log… Is it engaging? How can I make it better? What would you like to see more of? Also if you operate a travel blog yourself, let me know about it. I would love to hear of your travels and share them with the world. Be sure to leave a link below so we can follow your adventures. Safe travels.

Follow Friday @jgibbard – “Bacon is good for me!” #FF
Posted on 24. Jun, 2011 by JohnKnowles in Community, Hotel, Lily's Restaurant
@RShotel #FF pick is Jeff Gibbard #Bacon

“While I was in NYC last week for the #140conf, I stayed at the Roger Smith, the “social media” hotel.
The Roger Smith did a number of things well, from leaving me a few Vitamin Waters and a personalized note in my room, to quietly upgrading me from double beds to a king.
But what really stood out? Well of course it was the free bacon Foursquare special.

Kudos Roger Smith, you’ve won me over. I used to stay at the Park Central (a very nice hotel BTW) but you, Roger Smith have won my heart with appreciation for my industry, personal care and attention and of course…
BACON.”
