Follow Friday ~ Close To Home Edition
Posted on 11. Jun, 2010 by BrianSimpson in Community, Hotel, Lily's Restaurant
Here at the Roger Smith Hotel, social media is less about being a ‘department’ and more about building a culture. People and stories have always been a part of the hotel and now with the reach of social networks more people can participate, connect and enjoy our community. We have an amazing staff here at the hotel and some have taken the initiative to make social networking a part of their jobs on a daily basis. If you have ever been to the hotel you have probably met them and hopefully agree with me when I say these three individuals are worth the follow on this wonderful June Friday!
Yamile Diaz:

Yamile is the face, heart and soul of Lily’s restaurant here at the Roger Smith Hotel. He takes customer service seriously and it shows. He speaks multiple languages ( great for our visitors from overseas ), he is willing to do whatever it takes to make a guest happy and most of all he cares. If you have the stomach to handle one of the most energized people you could meet please stop by and say hello to Yamile…Or you can find him on Twitter as @RSYamilio
John Knowles:

John is the President and CEO of Panman Production and has produced numerous films, live broadcasts and content for the Roger Smith Hotel. Most recently John and his team produced a series of six short films called “The Roger Smith Shorts” which were screened last night at the Brooklyn International Film Festival. His creative juices and passion for new innovative ways of sharing visual arts on and off line have taught me about a whole new way of creating and sharing stories.
John can easily be found -> On Twitter @PanmanProd @Pancity or see his YouTube channel Roger Smith News.
Melissa Rodriguez:

Melissa is one of our friendliest bartenders, although she is so much more. Aside from entertaining, serving and being a creative mixologist, Melissa is in culinary school and has started a food blog FoodVixenNYC. Melissa is a text book example of what it means to be a Roger Smith employee.
Many of you know Melissa in real life… until now you may not have known how to find her when not sitting at her bar…now you can ![]()

Henry and the Breadpiece…
Posted on 26. May, 2010 by DanielKalmar in Henry's Roof Top, Hotel
In reality, there’s only one pirate in the world: Henry! For years he’s been active in the value collection business and has gained unrivaled skills in scavenging, finding and hiding all things that can be moved.
He’s finally been caught red handed, on tape, trying to hide his latest bounty, a big, juicy piece of valuable bread. His creativity and wit knows no boundaries.
And the Winner Is… “Henry’s Rooftop Bar”
Posted on 17. May, 2010 by BrianSimpson in Hotel, Lily's Restaurant
It’s official! The name of the terrace on the 16th floor of the Roger Smith Hotel will be called
“Henry’s Rooftop Bar” and here is the winner with her entry:

“You should name the bar after Henry…he’s pretty much the cutest thing in the world and I think you should appreciate him a bit more around there.”
We are all excited for the bar to open on Memorial Day Weekend, 2010. Henry is particularly anxious for his new Summer hang-out. Many people have had the pleasure of experiencing the terrace during events on the 16th floor Solarium. Now, for the first time in over 5 years, we will be opening from 5-10pm Monday-Friday with a full bar, wine, draft & bottled beer and food.
Stay tuned for a few ‘warm-up’ events leading up to the official opening !

Earning A Seat At The Table
Posted on 22. Jan, 2010 by BrianSimpson in Community, Hotel
In the last year we at The Roger Smith Hotel have been fortunate to host some of NYC’s best Social Media events. This allowed us direct access to attendees, organizers and sponsors. Almost through osmosis we were able to learn so much and make connections on a level rarely afforded to people. Adam and I (Brian) spent most of 2009 sitting at the kids table of social media. Now with the support of our RSH Team, owners and you, our community, we have earned a seat at the table. The big table.
On Monday, January 25th, Adam will be off to Amsterdam for a speaking engagement at Enterprise Social 2.0 : Rip or ROI? hosted by KGS Global Summits.
This will be a valuable learning experience and a great way to kick-off 2010.
As always, thank you all for your continued support. We look forward to amazing things from all of you in the next few months… please let us know what you are doing so we can be there to give our support back to you !

Julia, a dog named Waffle & The Ghost of Roger Smith
Posted on 21. Jan, 2010 by BrianSimpson in Community
Last night in the Penthouse of The Roger Smith Hotel Matt Semler & Danika Druttman, of The Lab Gallery, along with Julia Kaganskiy (MoMA) hosted a gathering of arts and tech enthusiasts. The main purpose was the introduction of smART Camp, a weekend long event in March, that will bring together influential artists, social network professionals and a community of people looking at ways the two are utilized for the exposure, education and sales for the art world.
The hotel, as many of you know, has a mysterious energy that seems to bring out the storyteller in all of its visitors, last night was no exception.
If you are skeptical… don’t believe me, believe Julia, Michelle Adam and a dog named Waffle.
Cinemonde: Wonderful World
Posted on 20. Jan, 2010 by admin in Arts, Community
In December, James Knowles of the Roger Smith Hotel presented the Rogé award at the Cinémonde film event. Cinémonde is all about great drink, great food, and great film. The screening on December 14th, at the School of Visual Arts Theater (on 23rd Street, bet. 8th & 9th Aves, in NYC) featured WONDERFUL WORLD, directed by Josh Goldin, starring Matthew Broderick, Sannaa Lathan and Michael K. Williams.
It was a smashing event. Not only did we have the pleasure of watching two fantastic films but we were able to engage some of the people who make this soiree possible. One such person was the director of the School of Visual Arts Theater, Gene Stavis.
James Knowles speaks with Chef Nata Traub about her childhood summers in France, and her love of Mediterranean flavors. Nata Traub has amazed and excited Cinémonde’s guests with her delightful dishes and exquisite taste.
Last but certainly not least we spoke with the director, Josh Goldin. Lets go Behind the scenes and check it out.
