Last week marks a turning point in our social media engagements as we began our community initiative on Google Plus. What better way to jump into the growing platform than under the guidance of marketing and blogging expert Chris Brogan. On Wednesday January 4th, 2012 Chris met with our team and talked with us about Google Plus for business. We have been lucky to have Chris be a brand ambassador over the years and are thrilled to be able to engage with him about such a fresh topic! We are currently building our presence on the platform and will be launching new collaborations with Chris in 2012.
If you want to know more about “Google Plus for Business” you should read Chris’ book and engage in the conversation.
As part of our #Rogersrooms initiative, I will be giving away a 2 night stay at the Roger Smith to be used in January as part of this blog post. To win the #Rogersroom contest, please tell us your favorite feature or fact about the Google plus platform and why you think it is interesting. The most unique, cleaver, useful, or original feature presented will win the contest! If you present a case study of who is innovating with in the platform, that could help you stand out as well! Please post your comments on our blog or this G+ post to be considered.
The stay can only be used in January 2012. I will be choosing a winner on Wednesday January 11th. I look forward to your feedback!
Be sure to follow +Roger Smith Hotel and engage us with your interest, ideas or inquiries. We will be hosting Google + meetups in the future and are excited about the relationships we will build on Google + in 2012.
Please share, comment and engage!
Thanks

I’ve not used Google+ as much as Twitter, but I definitely appreciate the Circles feature as a way to organize my friends and contacts. {Jonathan}
G+ is still immature. It’s been valuable for high clout digital voices – because other media are becoming socially mature/complex ecosystems. But G+ allows connected people in other spheres, to connect on a more personal level. You could say that it has the potential to be u00a0truly social (and less broadcast). Its filter systems are stronger, and the streams being a part of the foundation of the channel, make it very valuable. – Joeyu00a0
I think google+ shows tremendous potential. There are there are two huge features of G+ that could be game changers in my mind. One is controversial, the other isn’t. Google+ is absolutely a game changer in SEO. I was struggling to get page rank on google for “sustainable lighting” two or three blog posts shared via G+ and I was on Page 1. That is proving controversial as clearly Google is skewing it’s search results to favor it’s platform. Time will only tell if users are OK with that in the long run.u00a0nnThe second far less controversial feature is the hangout feature. I think there is real potential here foru00a0spontaneousu00a0meetings and collaboration via the social platform. If Google can make it dead simple to video chat and meetup with collaborators, clients and the public at large they will change the game in terms of how social media can foster communication.u00a0nnAll that said, it still has some major hurdles. I think people see Facebook as their personal social network (i.e. people they really know) Twitter as the web’s real-time ongoing global cocktail party where you can jump into and out of nearly any conversation at will, and they see linkedin as the serious network where they share professional contacts and content. It’s hard to see where G+ fits into a typical person’s media diet.nnWe shall see, of course.u00a0
This is really simple: I use GooglePlus to verbally spar with Jeff Jarvis!u00a0https://plus.google.com/u/1/105076678694475690385/posts but mostly I use G+ to stalk the Roger Smith for photos and videos of Henry (hint, hint) u00a0I suppose I can watch that video of Chris Brogan again until Henry gets some stuff up there.u00a0
The google plus platform is interesting simply because it positions google to have a monopoly on social media. u00a0Unlike some of the other follow platforms, it can be fully integrated into your homepage,making Google indispensable to the average end user. u00a0Talk about world domination, huh? u00a0
