The word of the day is “Determination”

It’s 6:45 in the morning on Wednesday, March 14 and the word of the day is “Determination”. By seven, the sun will be rising and the city will begin to bustle.

I’ve been up organizing my notes, made a video, and am making sure all affairs are in order. We had a brilliant art opening on Friday of last week showcasing the art of Christopher Ulrich in our new RSPop[+] Popup Shop. The show is curated by Molly Barnes who is responsible for our own Brown-bag Lunch series that takes place twice a month at the Roger Smith Hotel. I have an interest in connecting the right people with this provocative collection of art. The most dominant of painting in the space is “The Last Words of Aleister Crowley” present on the back wall of the Pop-up art gallery.
Amongst ourselves, with a little research courtesy of Ingrid David we came up with a great story describing the lore of the painting. It was argued that Aleister Crowley on his deathbed said something like “I am perplexed” or “sometime, I hate myself”.

The show is worth seeing and will be up on display at 501 Lexington Ave. at the base of the Roger Smith Hotel through March 2012.

For all you art collectors out there this is a call to action to see and be part of a great young artist career.

Thursday – Marilyn Church – Artist, Court Reporter, and author of: “The Art of Justice”. The Library of Congress has acquired 4,000 of her courtroom drawings including Gotti, Woody Allen, Bernie Madoff, P. Diddy, and Norman Mailer.

Friday – Henry Adams – Art Historian and Writer with books on Pollack, Bellows and Benton, will talk about his new book about the “Kokoon Arts Club”, which existed in Cleveland, from 1912 to 1938 featuring a modernist approach to producing art which created an artistic revolution.

Not just a Hotel… Not just a review company… A Roadmap for Social Publishing in Hospitality…

I recently was part of a webinar on social publishing which I found to be very insightful. Moderated by Josiah Mackenzie of Review Pro, the webinar made interesting observations regarding publishing strategies for the hospitality industry. The sharing of information in such a way will help lead best practice in online publishing.

In today’s world, food writing is everywhere– in newspapers, magazines, recipe headnotes, web sites, blogs and tweets. Much of it is informative and some of it pretty interesting, but not necessarily the stuff of literature. For that, readers turn to memoirs–some food based, some with food as a potent ingredient unveiling other lives and times. What distinguishes a food memoir and makes it fresh? These panelists will tell you how they did just that.
