The word of the day is “Determination”

The word of the day is “Determination”

It’s 6:45 in the morning on Wednesday, March 14 and the word of the day is “Determination”. By seven, the sun will be rising and the city will begin to bustle.

I’ve been up organizing my notes, made a video, and am making sure all affairs are in order. We had a brilliant art opening on Friday of last week showcasing the art of Christopher Ulrich in our new RSPop[+] Popup Shop. The show is curated by Molly Barnes who is responsible for our own Brown-bag Lunch series that takes place twice a month at the Roger Smith Hotel. I have an interest in connecting the right people with this provocative collection of art. The most dominant of painting in the space is “The Last Words of Aleister Crowley” present on the back wall of the Pop-up art gallery.
Amongst ourselves, with a little research courtesy of Ingrid David we came up with a great story describing the lore of the painting. It was argued that Aleister Crowley on his deathbed said something like “I am perplexed” or “sometime, I hate myself”.

The show is worth seeing and will be up on display at 501 Lexington Ave. at the base of the Roger Smith Hotel through March 2012.

For all you art collectors out there this is a call to action to see and be part of a great young artist career.

If you like more information on this artist or anything happening at the RSPop[+] pop-up shop feel free to contact me at Jknowles@panmanproductions.com with any inquiries.  You can also reach me at @pancity or @RSHotel on Twitter. Be sure to also follow our @RSPopplus Twitter account and become a fan of our Facebook page.

As always, if you are ever are in New York and need a place to stay, you can use this link to access a 10% discount on your booking.

At this moment the sun is up and my latest Panman mixtape no. 83 is just uploaded. Hope you enjoy it. Have a great day. Let me know what you think.

Christopher Ulrich at RSPop[+]

RSPop[+] the Roger Smith Hotel’s newest popup shop is now hosting the art work of Christopher Ulrich through the end of March, 2012. The show is curated by Molly Barnes who has brought many art conversations to the Roger Smith with her Brown Bag Lunches. All art is for sale.

Christopher Traedy Ulrich is a painter of surreal iconographic images. He is influenced by the richness of ancient mythology, the mystery of alchemy, and the vastness of cosmic reality. Illuminating this dark journey with insight, heart and determination he strives to understand the unraveling revelation that reveals itself in the work.

Follow Friday Watch-list #FF @andysmith @basilpuglisi and @pamslim “Movers and Shakers”

Follow Friday Watch-list #FF @andysmith @basilpuglisi and @pamslim “Movers and Shakers”

Good morning on this beautiful Friday. There’s a lot going on in New York City right now. With the Cookbook Conference underway at the Roger Smith Hotel there is there is no shortage of excitement in midtown. On my Follow Friday watch-list I have a couple of movers and shakers who become guiding lights for me in a time of social action.

First on my list is Andy Smith who has put his heart into creating the RS Cookbook Conference. We are hosting a Conference surrounding the beauty of the cookbook and all it’s parts. Andy is a celebrated food author who has a new book that dives into the indulgence and passion for junk food in our culture.

The second person on my follow Friday watch-list is Basil Puglisi. A natural connector, Basil is the motivator and champion of the upcoming Social Media Action Camp that is happening on Thursday February 16th as part of Social Media Week, again at the Roger Smith Hotel… Basil runs DBMEI (Digital Brand Marketing Education) and is an elite member of the “Who’s who” of the marketing and social media sphere.

The third person on my Follow Friday watch-list is Pamela Slim.  The first participant in the Pop+ [+]Network, Pam came into my space and introduced me to a series inspirational people, who will change my path in life forever. She’s not just a blind connector… Pam is interested in people and their passions. The quality of personalities that surfaced in her presence has gripped my attention and has elevated the quality of my network. The word “Hotshot” has been a buzzword in my vocabulary ever since.

In a new year, filled with exciting potential, I am encouraged by the opportunities that are in front of me. It’s a time to be socially responsible and encourage those who are heading in a similar direction. It’s a great time to be inspired. I am building new relationships that I imagine will be long lasting.

If you find yourself interested in knowing more about what is going on here at the Roger Smith don’t hesitate to reach out. Share with us what you are up to and ask something of us. Maybe we can help.

Have a great Friday afternoon and enjoy the weekend.

How Roger Smith fell out of bed!

This is the story of how Roger Smith is become more then just a hotel in New York. There are many hotels in New York and we are not the biggest, the newest or the fanciest. Our rooms are large in comparison to other hotels yet they have an old-world charm.

So how does a 130 room hotel in the middle of midtown Manhattan distinguish itself from it’s competitors?

What does Roger Smith think of himself?
Roger Smith is a place of ideas!
Roger Smith is a friendly host!
Roger Smith is a place for advanced media opportunities!
Roger Smith is a place for the arts; both creation and consumption!
Roger Smith is a place to be discovered!
Roger Smith is a place to be launched!
Roger Smith shares your content!
Roger Smith creates his own content!
Roger Smith is a personality!
I am Roger Smith!
You are Roger Smith!
He is Roger Smith!
Roger Smith Pops Up!
Roger Smith will engage with you on twitter as well a have a drink with you in Lilys!
Roger Smith will be your friend, follow you and learn about your influence!
Roger Smith is not just a Hotel, it is a family!

Meditation / Mediations A reflection on artistic collaborations with Daniel Rothbart by John Knowles

Meditation / Mediations A reflection on artistic collaborations with Daniel Rothbart by John Knowles

Video as an art-form was my creative indulgence in 2011. I have been testing visual concept through patterns and loops and have developed a style and method for my creative expression. It has inspired new collaborative projects that test my ability to mix and balance different elements of light, color, intent and other contributing inputs.

On November 20th 2011, I set up my projections with artist Daniel Rothbart to test out new forms of creative alchemy. The ingredients of the experiment consisted of my intent to drive future success and innovation combined with Daniels perspective as a conductor within the light.

Together we explored the dimension of the empty space in the bowls and played with the shadows as they appeared on the wall behind him. His calm and observant nature provided the an ideal collaborative chemistry.

So what can you as the objective observer take away from this experience? I believe that creative expressions of intent opens the door to new realizations and physical manifestations. By exploring the depths of your creative potential you can imagine and experience any reality you choose. My objective is to inspire and stimulate others to create and participate.

Stay tuned for collaborative art projects in 2012. We will soon be launching an Artist meetup at the Roger Smith where creative personalities be able to meet and experiment.

Reach out and engage to be part of the growing network.

Welcome to @pancity! Where all your dreams come true!

#TweetDrive inspires NYC’s Social Community to give back! ~ Harrison Kratz guest blog post

#TweetDrive inspires NYC’s Social Community to give back! ~ Harrison Kratz guest blog post

On Tuesday Decemeber 13, social media professionals and community builders from the New York City area came together to give back and celebrate the holidays at the Lily’s in the Roger Smith Hotel for the New York City Tweet Drive.

The New York City Tweet Drive was part of Tweet Drive, a global social good campaign that brings together social media communities to collect toys for under-privileged children during the holiday season.

New York’s social media community came out in full force and showed what the holidays are all about – friends, family, drinks, giving back, and more than a few ridiculous Facebook photos.

Thanks to event partners such as HP, Community Managers Meetup, SCVNGR and popchips, New York rocked around the Christmas tree to the tune of over 100 toys collected for Toys for Tots’ Brooklyn chapter! In celebration, there may or may not have been some “Tebowing.”

As the organizer of Tweet Drive, I would just like to say thank you for making this an unforgettable night. While there are many things to do in the city during the holidays, you all chose to spend it with us to give back to a great cause.

Santa Con may have been last Saturday, but for one night at the Roger Smith Hotel, we all got to be our own version of Santa Claus.

This is a guest blog post from Harrison Kratz.

Bio: Harrison Kratz navigates New York City as the Community Manager at MBA@UNC, the new MBA online program from the University of North Carolina. He also sticks to his entrepreneurial roots as the founder of the global social good campaign, Tweet Drive.
